What else can be done out of flowers: rose

I love flowers. I'd like to have them everywhere - in my garden, in my room, on my walls. One week ago I did not know that I can use them in my kitchen too! This week I've brought lots of fowers in my kitchen: pansies, dianthus (three types), elderberry flowers and roses. Roses where the flowers I liked the most.

Rose jam
Ingredients: 200g of rose petals, 600g of sugar, juice of one lemon.
Pour sugar into a pan, add water and boil up. Rose petals must be clean,  but not washed (they'd lose aroma). Add the petals in the pan, boil for 40 minutes. After this time fill the jars with still warm jam.

Another recipe - for those who have already made this jam or have bought in the grocer's.
Rose muffins (makes about 8 muffins)
Ingredients:
dough: 1/2 cup of sugar, 100g of soft butter, 2 eggs (yolks and whites), 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
filling: about 5 teaspoons of rose jam
on top:  1 cup of cream cheese (sweet version), 4 teaspoons of rose jam.
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees C. Combine all dough ingredients (I know, that it should be divided at the beginning, but I always mix everything together in one pan with a fork). Fill muffin cups with one teaspoon of dough, put rose jam on it and then fill with the dough to the top. Bake for about 15 minutes.
Mix the frosting ingredients together. Let muffins cool down and decorate uncarefully.

(I made it all for a picnic that was also a date. Pretty weather gives us a great opportunity of spending free time outside!)

  1. I'll certainly give it a try, it sounds a fun way to use flowers to cook or bake with!

I also agree on what you say. I'd love to have flowers everywhere, but I need to be careful. My cats would love to have them around too, haha! And if we ever exchange flowers, you'll for sure receive a special place too. I am very happy I got to meet you, even though we just met.

  2. That picnic looks gorgeous. Yes I love flowers as well. I especially love eating them. You feel kind of fairly like when you do. :) I was munching on some daylilies the other day.

  3. As answer on your question I found in my mail: the leaf collection products have been for sale. I have only a few more left in my shop. But I have plans to make more in the future. :)
