Treasures of Summer: Butterflies

I found a few dead butterflies through Summer and couldn't do anything but try to make their beaut last longer. I bought plain wooden frames and now they hang on my wall. When you want (just like me) to have butterflies in your room, it's much better way than buying. The reason is simple - those butterflies were killed in order to be framed and sold.

Przyczyna jest prosta - tamte motyle były zabite specjalnie, by zostać oprawione w ramkę i sprzedane.

Making a DIY out of this post isn't my aim. Not everyone is keen on collecting dead insects. In my case it's out of control, they're just to pretty to be left on the sidewalk. This is how they look on my wall, in company of other treasures I've been collecting or making during the last couple of years:

Treasures of Summer

1. dried flowers 2. honey 3. Tilia (I dried some more herbs too!) 4. butteflies, stones, shells, driftwood

As I said in this post I've been collecting things that nature somehow left on my way during Summer. I'm going to turn them into something pretty, useful or pretty and useful;) Honey is the only exception, it just kind of turned into my new hobby. I try to recognize new tastes as I bought six new while I was in Tuscany.
I wonder if you guess what are my ideas! Tell me, what do you think?

Have a beautiful day,
Julia

{countryside living:} oldschool car exploring distant places

I spent a few days with friends in the countryside. This was time of doing extremely nothing, this photoshoot is the only constructive thing I brought from this short trip. And oh, I almost forgot, there's one more thing - a jar of berries that will turn into delicious ice cream! Enjoy.
*

Szymon bought this car about a month ago. He kept cleaning changing and fixing for the whole time as he's really passionate about it. He managed to end it all before the trip. I must admit I was really scared of it at the beginning, but it's changing with time;)
*

Have a beautiful day,
Julia

PS: Today I launched a tumblr blog, where I'll be sharing a summary of what I share here. Follow along and let me know if you are on tumblr!

Treasures of Summer: vintage and new

Summer for me is the time when I finally can do a lot of things I can't during the year. I mean being lazy, drawing silly things and patterns, going to the flea market (and finding pretty things!) presing flowers and lots more.
These old German and Polish nibs are from the flea market. This is something I've been looking for! They are great for practising calligraphy. Szymon made the wooden handles for me and now I can have fun;)
This year I find many dead butterflies on the sidewalk. I decided to pick them and make them be beautiful for longer. Maybe I'll make a little display from all things I collect this Summer such as flowers, leaves, drift wood, seashells, feathers and of course butterflies. Something similar to the letters I send to three bloggers when I was in Tuscany last year.
Zbieram je i próbuję dać im drugie życie.

My new plant in a vintage clay pot andorned with a piece of lace.
Nowa roślinka w starej, glinianej doniczce ozdobionej koronką.

I just can't express with words how I'm delighed with the tulip fabric this bra is made of! It's just such a lovely and fresh pattern that I had to buy it. On the right you can see an old notebook with floral print. It's so pretty that I didn't find a proper function for it because I have a fear that I could destroy it somehow.

Do you like these? What are your Summer finds by now?

Have a beautiful day,
Julia

Natural dye: poppy (DIY)

It's poppy time! Last year I made natural ink out of flower petals, thi Summer I wanted to make something different. So if you ever wanted to try natural dye, now it's your turn. It's really easy!

First you need to pick some poppies, only the petals. Put it to a pot and boil with water on low heat (1 volume of poppies per 2 volumes of water) for one hour or longer. In another pot boil a piece of fabric you want to dye in a solution of vinegar 1:4 to water. After that time separate the petals (they should be sheer), rinse the fabric in cold water and put into the pot with poppy dye. Leave it until you're satisfied with the colour you got (remember it will be slightly lighter!).
Here you have it! You need only three ingredients in the whole process!
Note: If your fabric is cotton I reccomend using different fixative.

I also attempted to make an ombre lace. I dipped only the end of folded lace in the liquid and the colour went up with the fibres! Honestly, it turned out even better that the dress.

How do you like the result? Do you plan similar experiments for the summer?

Have a beautiful day,
Julia

A Miracle of Spring

Seems impossible, but nature has it's own rules.
It's blooming right now.

Back with morning lights

Hello! It's a while since I wrote the last post. I was on vacation and decided not to use too much internet. This break was what I needed. Now I'm back from the place I visit every year with a doze of photos to share.

Our camping next to the forest. This light used to be the first thing we saw every morning.

I simply adore the morning light and wake up early every single morning when I'm there. The prettiest thing I've ever seen.

Home, hello again. Welcome back to reality.

Wishing you a beautiful day,
Julia
